The Biafran War: A Nation Divided

Once upon a time, in the heart of West Africa, stood the diverse nation of Nigeria, home to many peoples, including the Hausa-Fulani in the north, the Yoruba in the west, and the Igbo in the east. After gaining independence from British rule in 1960, hopes were high, but ethnic and political tensions soon emerged. In January 1966, these tensions erupted when a group of young Igbo military officers carried out a coup, plunging the young nation into a period of unrest.
